DEPRESSION
is a serious problem. Unfortunately, in this day and age, it still carries a ridiculous amount of stigma.
There's a HUGE difference between being down and being depressed.
When you're down, you usually snap out of it within a few days.
When you're depressed, it's so paralyzing, that you cease to function. Despite your best efforts, you can barely even get out of bed. Telling someone to get over it is useless, if they could, they would. Be a friend, listen, and try to get the person the help they need. It can be overcome, with understanding and willingness to help.
