An Unexpected Twist of Fate
Interesting enough, one of those paintings actually played a part in saving Rothenburg ob der Tauber during World War II. The city had already been attacked and the American troops were set to fully destroy Rothenburg because Nazi soldiers were stationed there. But, an American general heard this news and remembered the gorgeous painting of the city that hung in his childhood home.
