Don't think of it as a material purchase (to own more stuff) -- as it shouldn't be that -- think of it as:
1) projects to work on together;
2) activities by which they can remember the time you spent;
3) skills or understandings they can acquire;
4) enterprises they can carry on and enjoy themselves or with others.
Not the cheap stuff...
