David Oates' fervent belief is that hidden in the sounds of human speech lies a separate, "covert" communication, or mind speak, which is comprehensible only by recording a person's voice and playing it backward.
"Reverse speech, is the voice of truth," Oates writes. Forward and backward messages occur simultaneously, but originate in different cerebral regions.
If the forward-spoken words contain a lie, the backward speech betrays it - in the form of "unconscious motivations, desires, and thoughts."
