Subordination benefits the imposing ruler who is frightened by the idea of subversive insurgents.
Just follow him through moral sacrifices and unethical deaths to detriment , you legions of demon holders sure figured he'd care a sane moment about you. Or maybe you gave up on life willingly to serve his cause.
