The spatial reasoning of Geology delights me.

We look at the sequence and relative ages of different layers of sediment as they were originally laid down. 

Then we look at the surface of the ground and identify different layers present in outcroppings in the field. 

Then, by comparing the two (the original, pre-historic sequencing of undisturbed sediments with the outcroppings at the surface) we could readily visualize or 'see,' what is unseen.
